Not surprisingly perhaps, there's a wide choice of accommodation in the Cairngorms resort of Aviemore, but our favourite is this fabulous B&B, located right in the heart of the town and run with verve and enthusiasm by affable owner Scott Burns-Smith. It's a thoroughly welcoming place which revels in its proximity to the outdoor activities that the Aviemore area has to offer, catering to skiers and snowboarders in winter, walkers in spring and summer and mountain-bikers all year round. And even if outdoor activities aren't your bag, it's as cosy and comfortable a place to stay as you'll find.

The B&B has 12 rooms, made up of 4 doubles, 2 singles, a twin and 5 very popular family rooms situated in a spick-and-span separate chalet in the garden. They are all beautifully decorated in a contemporary style; each room is individually styled and comes with a deliberately different colour palette, but they all come with good WiFi, flatscreen TVS, tea- and coffee-making facilities and en-suite bathrooms with re-fillable toiletries from the Isle of Arran,. Some of the double rooms have king-size beds, while the family rooms have a double and two single beds, and an outside seating area with decking.

Breakfast is served in a light, bright room, with porridge, Scotch pancakes and a superb Full Scottish cooked to order among  a choice of items designed to set you up for a full and active day in the Great Outdoors. Scott is big on making things as convenient as possible for his thrill-seeking customers, with a laundry hut and a drying room available for guests, and bike storage and a bike wash area for mountain bikers. Scott is also full of good advice on the best slopes, trails and activities in the surrounding area, including adrenaline-fuelled adventures with their partners G2 Adventures. But it's not all about the outdoors: Aviemore is full of family attractions and things to see and do, not to mention places to eat and drink. Best of all, you have your cosy room at Ravenscraig to look forward to at the end of each day.
