Nevis Range
Torlundy Fort Willliam PH33 6SQ
Scotland’s, and indeed the UK’s, only mountain gondola
is on hand just outside Fort William to whisk you right up to the Nevis Range's world of
adventures at 650m. From here in summer you can head off for a mountain hike
and take in a brace of Munros (mountains over 3,000ft) or head off on one of
the mountain biking trails. The gondola gives access to a seriously testing red
run, but also to the frankly terrifying orange downhill trail that hosts the
World Cup every year and has even hosted the World Championships. More sedentary
souls can just enjoy a cuppa, pint or a meal at the Snowgoose by the gondola station,
where the views are breathtaking without any real effort. Short walking trails
also break away from the restaurant. In winter the skiers and snowboarders
take over and a web of chairlifts take snowsport enthusiasts off to enjoy what
are frequently superb conditions. Back down at the base of the gondola a new
high ropes park and café await, as well as a bike shop and a network of green,
blue and red mountain bike trails at a fully fledged mountain centre that has something
to suit all tastes.
