Norwegian Church
Harbour Drive Cardiff Bay CF10 4PA
Located in windswept isolation on the eastern side of the Bay, Cardiff's Norwegian Church was built during the mid-19th century as a mission for sailors from all over Scandinavia. It was also where Roald Dahl, the Cardiff-born author of classics such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach, was christened, in 1916, though the church was then located on the site of the present-day Millennium Centre. Recently opened again following a major refurbishment, its days as a conventional church are long gone, and nowadays it functions as a coffee shop and cultural centre, serving up a range of exciting events, from classical and jazz concerts to art exhibitions and dance classes.
