The Pierhead
Cardiff Bay Cardiff CF99 1NA
A graceful neo-Gothic red brick pile located just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge, the iconic Pierhead was purpose built in 1897 to house the Cardiff Railway Company, later becoming the administrative centre for the Port of Cardiff authority. These days, the building is home to an informative and engaging exhibition on the history of the docks and the iron ore and coal exporting industries that sustained the city until their demise in the 1950s. There’s also an exposition on the genesis of the neighbouring National Assembly building, in itself worth a quick look around once you’re done here.
