St Fagans National History Museum
St Fagans Cardiff CF5 6XB
Four miles west of Cardiff in the village of St Fagan, the National History Museum is one of the country’s most outstanding heritage attractions. Set within the grounds of a 16th-century castle, it’s a wonderful assemblage of mostly late-19th and early 20th-century dwellings, shops and other buildings culled from various parts of Wales. Stand-out buildings including a row of six ironworker’s cottages from Rhyd-y-Car, the Victorian Gwalia Stores from Ogmore Vale and a still functioning bakery. There are ecclesiastical buildings to enjoy, too, notably the sweet little whitewashed chapel from Dyfed. Allow yourself a good few hours to cover the ground – you’ll need it.
