Tucked away inside one of Cardiff’s most beautiful arcades, this wonderful corner cafe-cum-deli should be one of your first ports of call when in Cardiff, especially if you are a connoisseur of cheese. With a name like this, it’s not surprising that Madame Fromage stocks some of the finest French cheeses going, many of which are delivered daily from local specialist French suppliers. Not to be outdone by the French, there are also some superbly crafted Welsh and English cheeses too. The cafe menu (there are separate summer and winter menus) is similarly mixed – it's French-leaning (gallettes, tartlettes, quiches and so on), but traditional Welsh dishes such as cawl and rarebit also get a look in. Even if you don’t plan on eating here, the shop has shelves crammed with jams, chutneys, oils, olives and much more.
