It's a measure of the extraordinary dog-friendly nature of Half Moon Lane Cottage that you are promised a 'hound and human holiday' above all else. And if you've spent hours scouring websites for the merest mention of how your dog might be catered for, then you really have struck the motherlode here in deepest Suffolk, with a canine-centric cottage surrounded by walks, forests and nature reserves.

For humans, the attraction is clear – a renovated old country cottage on the edge of the Waveney Valley, with three double bedrooms (one en-suite), a family bathroom, lounge and library with double-sided woodburner, open-plan kitchen-diner and outside space with patio, lawn and barbecue facilities. There are sofas and beanbags, board games and smart TV, and stylish country vibes throughout. It's a tad higgeldy-piggeldy, as all good cottages should be, though the uneven floors, low headroom, lots of steps and upstairs bedrooms mean it's not suitable for anyone with mobility issues – or for children under twelve.

But here's the thing – luxurious and well-equipped as it is, Half Moon Lane Cottage is not only about the humans who come to stay here, it's just as much about the hounds who bring them. There are no hidden dog-related costs and the cottage can accommodate as many dogs as you like. Brick, tile and wood floors throughout mean that muddy paws are not a problem. The furnishings and walls are wipeable and washable and the dogs are welcome anywhere in the house, even on your bed – though there are several dog beds and coveted fireside spaces for the pooches too. The garden is fully fenced, and dog treats and supplies come as standard, from tags and poo bags to tennis balls. There really is nothing the owners won't do for holidaying hounds, you just have to bark (or get your human to ask).

The local village has a shop and bakery, and pub and microbrewery (both dog-friendly), and there are six nature reserves within a five-mile radius of the cottage. If you can't find a different dog walk twice a day, you're not trying – Thetford Forest Park alone (twenty minutes' drive west) could keep you tramping around in glorious wooded surroundings for a week. Or an hour east are miles of sandy, dog-friendly beaches on the Suffolk coast. As good as it gets for hounds and humans? Bark once for yes and twice for hell, yes!

The Owner Says

If your dogs could choose... they would like to holiday with you here...  because it is the most dog welcoming cottage in the world (probably). This is a well appointed detached cottage with all the amenities you might expect and plenty of perks for people... but what makes this place really special is that you can enjoy all the spaces with your dogs just as you would at home and they too are catered for - they are not an afterthought. No additional dog related (or other) fees and the only rule is that the dogs belong to guests. The ultimate differentiator is total relaxation for everyone... without crazy rules you are expected to suddenly impose on the canine members of your family.
Big skies, expansive arable fields, nature reserves, long walking trails, the infamous Norfolk Broads, beaches and vast forests nearby, this pretty cottage on the edge of the Waveney Valley (on the Norfolk/Suffolk border) is the perfect place to access easy outdoor adventures.

Fabulous, amazing and simply the best.

This place has everything anyone with dogs 🐕 will ever need. The dogs are definitely priority here, from treats to poobags and balls to beds, even a sumptuous supply of throws for them. The doggie bath was most welcomed after one of ours found some fox poo. Anyway that's another story. The place is so well stocked with everything you need, tea, coffee, soaps, washing tablets and I could go on...... Thanks so much for letting us all enjoy our stay and watch out cause we will be back.... Even the weather was great and we got some me time in catching some rays. It so peaceful and quiet and the locals are very welcoming. Thanks again. Graham and Terry and 6 dogs.

Beautiful Yew Tree Cottage

Yew Tree Cottage was the most beautiful base, to explore the surrounding coutryside, highlights were Constable country, Framlingham, Lavernham and Sutton Hoo, we used the OS circular walk book, this enabled us to find some extremely beautiful scenery. There are some amazing delis' farm shops, vineyards and distillaries in the area, all full of beautiful local produce. Yew Tree Cottage was the perfect base, two humans, and 6 dogs, the living area is perfect for dogs, hard floors, with plenty of dog beds around the whole cottage, the dogs had free access to the whole cottage and furniture, the super king size bed was fabulous asset for a perfect nights before more walking the next day, We would highly recommend Yew Tree Cottage.

Recommended to us and highly recommended to you!

We stayed following a recommendation from a friend and had a great time. Perfectly set up for all our needs - both hound and human with great facilities when travelling with dogs - loved the outdoor doggy bath. Lovely secure garden with room for dogs to run about and us to relax. Lots of recommendations for both local walks and nearby places to visit. Would highly recommend and we’re looking forward to our next visit 🐾

Perfectly dog friendly.

This is the most ideal dog friendly cottage I have ever stayed at. It is beautiful inside and outside. Really clean and tidy. Doggies are allowed in all areas as it is designed to be super dog friendly. The cottage is stylish and beautifully comfortable for humans too. The area is so quiet and scenic and walks are right there on the doorstep. I cannot recommend it enough for multiple dog owners. We felt so relaxed and happy there we never wanted to leave. We will be returning.

A great place to stay for the whole pack

Our return visit was great, the dogs settled straight away. This time We travelled around and were able to enjoy trips to the Broads, Flatford and Caister all within an hours drive of the cottage. A lovely few days away.

Happy Howlidays!

We booked a long weekend at HHH. A guilt-free break away from home DIY and the house ‘to do’ list that was booked specifically for the furry member of our family – Bran. What can I say about HHH? Everything was perfect. It’s like home, but better. Everything has been thoughtfully curated and provided for every doggo. From a selection of toys, right through to a bespoke dog bed in every room. The attention to detail is truly something else. And you might well think that the human pack members would have to compromise on something because it is so focused on dogs…well, you would be completely wrong. The cottage has been sympathetically and thoughtfully renovated and has been beautifully decorated. It’s spacious, warm, cosy and meticulously clean. Ethical and sustainable mod cons and amenities (including Netflix), and an abundance of books for those nights in. The bed was so comfortable that I didn’t want to leave it! These are all things you would not normally expect from a self-catering doggie cottage – but it literally has it ALL! Victoria, the owner, clearly cares about all her guests and makes sure they have a great experience, both human and hound alike, and it really does show. All you really need is you, your dog and maybe your wellies. I can honestly say we had a paw-some stay at HHH!

Amazing holiday home - truly dog friendly

Such an amazing holiday home! This place was truly dog friendly. Our pooch was spoilt for choice on dog beds to use and toys to play with. The dog bath in the garden with hot & cold water was ideal and to top it off we were left some lovely doggie treats. The house was immaculate and had everything humans needed too. Will definitely be staying again and recommending to everyone.

getaway

Lovely place well laid out, the sitting room was large with two sofas and large tv, a woodburner heater, and a brill large dog bed. The kitchen area was great a lot of room and underfloor heating especially by the table and also another a dog bed. Also there is a library and if you like there are games . The main bedroom has a en-suite with a deep bath and a walk in shower and underfloor heating. The garden was great for your dogs but due going in january didn't spend alot of time out there but if going in the summer would be great, But great places to walk with your little friends or big ones. Bedding, towels hand soap shampoo and conditioner and much more so if you are looking for a really great place for yourselfs and your dogs check out half moon lane cottage ( dog beds in very room ) Had a great time
