Becks Bay Camping is situated on a farm with its own farm shop and café within the Pembrokeshire National Park. It’s three miles from Tenby, 20 minutes’ walk from the nearest beach and just a field away from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. In short, it’s a fantastic location for a holiday in South West Wales, where the focus is firmly on the great outdoors. And it offers a variety of ways to stay, so there’s likely to be something to suit you. You can book one of their off-grid camping pitches, stay in a bell tent or yurt or get cosy in a shepherd’s hut. There’s even a proper holiday home, Lower Bubbleton Cottage, which we’ll tell you about elsewhere. For now, though, we’ll focus on what’s out in the fields, apart from pigs, cows and sheep.
Closest to the heart of the farm is Frankshore. It’s the first of two shepherd’s huts, both built for two. They each have log burners inside and private hot tubs outside. This one is open all year round and has mains electricity, an indoor kitchenette and an en-suite shower and loo. It’s the one to go for if you’re a nervous glamper or want to stay out of peak season. Sand Top, meanwhile, is down in the glamping field, a five-minute walk away. Although it’s not far from the bell tents and yurts, it feels very secluded as it’s tucked in a fold in the field, close to the coast path. It has a kitchen shed, a private shower and a flushing loo just outside its bi-folding doors, which give wonderful views of the sea.
The yurt is similarly kitted out (with a log burner, hot tub, own kitchen, shower and loo), but it’s family-sized, with a double bed and two singles. The three bell tents are closer to the camping experience but still come with made-up beds for four and cooking kit provided. They share two showers, loos and a communal camp kitchen. And finally if you want full-on camping, there is no better place than Beck's Bay, which offers spacious pitches with fire pits dug into the ground for campfires; you share the hot showers and toilets, and you can also bring your campervan if that's your thing.
Everything is off grid in the camping and glamping fields, although solar-powered lighting and charging are available. That’s just one of the green credentials of this fabulous site, where a tree is planted for every stay, there’s a focus on recycling and there are areas that are being re-wilded. That’s how you might feel while you’re here too. Days can be spent beach combing, sea swimming, climbing, kayaking and walking on the coast path. Evenings are spent by the campfire, under Pembrokeshire’s starry night skies.
