If a stride out onto the wild moorland of the Preseli Hills no matter the weather, with a hot soak in a deep bath at the end of it, followed by a spot of fine dining, is your idea of a good time, then the Grove at Narberth is just the spot. You can have it all at this fabulous little Pembrokeshire hotel, which provides understated luxury and fine dining in beautiful surroundings. Not for nothing was it voted AA Hotel of the Year recently.
The hotel has 25 rooms and suites in total –14 in the hotel itself and 11 in the grounds – all of them large, elegant and comfortable. Ask for the Cwtch (meaning 'cuddle' in Welsh) room, or the Bramble suite in Poyer’s cottage with its original arrow slits. All come with Sky TV, tea and coffee, telephone, hairdryer and WiFi, cast iron baths and monsoon showers.
Expect to eat well here. Whatever you order will likely come fresh from the kitchen garden and local producers: Wales does cheese, meat and fish incredibly well. Water comes from the Grove’s own spring, sparkling or still directly to your table. The hotel boasts eco credentials too, including car-charging points, solar panels and energy created from a biomass station on site.
Dogs are more than welcome to stay at six of the cottages; two of the Herb cottages; Sage and Sorrel with separate lounge and woodburning stove. Poyers cottage houses Elderflower, plus Bramble (which has private access to the main house), followed by Bailiff’s cottage housing Byer, and Cwtch. Expect a bed, blanket, bowl, Love Heart treats and bags waiting for you. Dogs can dine by reservation in the snug of the Artisan Rooms for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A doggie dining menu is also available serving Burns food. There are 26 acres right outside to race over and roll about on. The Preseli Hills, sandy beaches and wooded hillsides await.
