If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life and simply get away from it all, then this is the place for you. Situated in the heart of the Forest of Bowland, the Inn at Whitewell is surrounded by miles of stark, stunning, moorlands. It’s tempting to say that it’s in the middle of nowhere, but the reality is that it’s in the middle of everywhere; the nearest village, Dunsop Bridge, has a phone box which officially marks the geographic centre of the United Kingdom. It was also BT's 100,000th telephone box, unveiled by Sir Ranulph Fiennes as recently as 1992, and its unique claims to fame have ensured its preservation.
The inn dates back to the 14th century and is warm and inviting. During the winter months fires blaze in the assorted hearths and in the summer there is a stunning patio area to sit back, relax and take in the magnificent views. Each of the bedrooms is unique, with its own style and decor ranging from cosy and historic to sleek and modern and many rooms have their own fireplace, making them perfect for winter escapes. With plenty of walks right from the door and wholesome, hearty meals to come back to, this is the perfect retreat any time of the year.
Dogs are allowed in all the bedrooms and every other area of the inn, apart from the dining room and there is no extra charge for bringing them with you. Should you wish to dine with your dogs (they’re very flexible on numbers, just call ahead if you have more than one), then that can be arranged either in the bar/ lounge areas or in your room.
