Railway Carriages and Stations
You don't have to be a train enthusiast to want to stay in one of the UK's many converted railway carriages or railway stations. Over the years, many of the country's disused train stations have been converted as places to live, some of them as unique (and often quaintly retro) self-catering holiday accommodation. Most of these are still identifiable as stations, with waiting rooms and ticket offices that make terrific spaces for living rooms and bedrooms. In some cases the platforms and occasionally even the rail lines themselves are still there, just in case you were in any doubt about where you were sleeping. Railway carriages, meanwhile, were (kind of) holiday accommodation to start with, and are still perfect for just that, self-contained and often sensitively renovated to provide all the modern comforts you expect but still with a nod to the fixtures and fittings of yesteryear. One last thing: many old railway lines have been converted to footpaths, so there's often the extra bonus of a good walk nearby, too!
