The Lighthouse
11 Mitchell Lane Glasgow UK G1 3NU
Hidden away in a warren of city centre streets, the Lighthouse is the striking creation of the city’s most famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and was originally opened to house the Glasgow Herald newspaper. Perhaps appropriately, it's since been revamped to become Scotland’s Centre for Architecture & Design but it is still Mackintosh through-and-through and naturally has a section dedicated to the great man, along with numerous temporary exhibitions, an audio-visual experience telling the story of the city and a smart café. It also still has its 'lighthouse', and the views from the floor-to-ceiling glass terrace and the tower itself are amongst the most memorable in the city.
