Merchant City
Merchant City Glasgow
Until all too recently this once-grand grid of grand Victorian and Georgian buildings was looking more than a little faded, but its rejuvenation has been one of the most spectacular parts of Glasgow’s recent renaissance. The epic sandstone buildings that were built by the riches flowing into the city from trade across the world are no longer home to rich merchants, but instead to designer fashion stores, chic boutiques and a sprinkling of excellent cafés, bars and restaurants. The street signs proudly proclaim that you are in the Merchant City, and it really is the centre’s most refined quarter for flashing the cash on items you don't really need.
