The Old Success Inn
Sennen Cove Penzance Cornwall TR19 7DG
Hailing back to the 17th century, The Old Success was once a thatched alehouse where local fishermen used to share the profits from their catch. And despite being updated over the last 300-odd years (for starters, it's got a more modern roof and carpets), the pub – one of the UK's most southwesterly watering holes – has lost none of its traditional and friendly ambience. Nautical memorabilia and sepia prints adorn the walls, and a roaring fire warms the cockles of the drinkers, diners and their dogs. Being a St Austell Brewery, quality Cornish ales include Trelawney and Tribute on tap, and the menu is good value pub grub – prawn cocktail, fish and chips, and steak and ale pie. As if all this wasn't enough, the pub is also located bang on the stunning Sennen Cove – a pearly smile of sand where surfers flock to catch the brunt of the Atlantic swell. Self-catering and B&B accommodation is also available.
