Location, location, location – you know it's true, and this picture-perfect stone cottage above the harbour at Mousehole absolutely nails it. You could not be closer, right at the water's edge, with the boats of the inner harbour bobbing away below the windows. It's a genuinely stunning site, where you can wake up to the sound of lapping water and gulls, and have breakfast every morning outside on the cobbled front terrace.

There's stylish open-plan living on the main floor, with the dining table set under a massive picture window with harbour and bay views. You're definitely going to make use of the binoculars provided at some point during your stay. There's plenty of exposed stonework, wooden floors and white walls, and a very smart kitchen area and island equipped with everything you'll need if you're going to be taking advantage of the local fish and seafood. Everything is totally up-to-scratch too, from Bluetooth speakers and smart TV to log-burner-effect fire and coffee machine.

Both bedrooms are en-suite, and located on the lower floor – beautiful, white spaces with more exposed stone, built-in wardrobes, and more wonderful sea views out through the windows. The master bedroom has a deep window sill with bench seating, and a walk-in shower in the bathroom. The other bedroom is hardly any less enticing, and its bathroom has both bath and overhead shower.

As for Mousehole itself – that's 'Mowzul' by the way – it's one of the most picturesque of all Cornish seaside villages. It's only a few miles from the resort antics of the much larger Penzance, and is a quieter affair all round – except perhaps for high summer, when tourists throng its cobbled streets and alleys. But you have the most secret of hideaways to retreat to, with nothing between you and the harbour, and when the crowds disperse for the day, it really seems as though Mousehole has been laid on exclusively for you, right outside your window.
