Bistro 21 is a straightforward contemporary restaurant just outside the city centre that can always be relied upon. It occupies a welcoming yellow house and has a pretty little courtyard where diners can eat in summer, as well as an airy dining room. Fresh, seasonal and locally produced ingredients are combined to create delicious, well-executed dishes from leek and wild garlic soup to terrific steaks with thin-cut chips. There's always a good fish and veggie selection too, while express lunches and early evening dinners (Mon–Sat 5.30pm–7pm) are a good way to dine for less.
