East Portlemouth
Devon TQ8
The East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe estuary is home to several great sandy beaches – Fisherman’s Cove, Smalls Cove and – the largest – Mill Bay. They’re a bit less busy than those on the Salcombe side, and access is easy - come over on your own boat, or take one of the regular ferries from Salcombe town quay or the ferry point by the Ferry Inn to Fisherman’s Cove. From here you can walk all the way to Mill Bay - along the beach or along the top road depending on the tides. Driving from Salcombe takes a lot longer, but there is parking at Mill Bay. Facilities include an organic Venus outdoor café above Fisherman's Cove, and toilets in the National Trust car park at Mill Bay. You can break your beach day up with a walk along the top coastal path towards Gara Rock and beyond.
