Nothe Forte
Barrack Road, Weymouth DT4 8UF
High on a headland overlooking Weymouth harbour, Nothe Fort is a well-preserved Victorian fort built in 1872 to protect the town from coastal attack, although it didn’t actually witness any fighting until World War II. Today, it’s a great place for children to explore, with fascinating displays of World War II memorabilia – and even a tank to climb on in the courtyard – as well as fantastic vistas over the sea. Due to its dramatic location and great views, it was he main ticketed spectator venue, along with the neighbouring Nothe Gardens, for the sailing events during the 2012 Olympics.
