Nestled in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Ringstead Bay is this history-rich bunker that's been lovingly converted into a two-bedroom getaway – a unique spot indeed. Formerly housing a transmitter block that supported RAF Ringstead during World War II, the bunker was an integral component of the Chain Home radar, a coastal early warning mechanism. Decommissioned in 1956 and granted Grade-II status, the renovation was carefully considered, retaining the original concrete walls.
Nestled within a dairy farm, the Transmitter Bunker is just two fields away from the sea, meaning you can make the most of the coast and the countryside. The characterful single-story bolthole is home to a compact but well-fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and slimline dishwasher, an open fireplace in the sitting area, and sliding doors letting plenty of light in. And let's not forget the polished concrete floor with underfloor ground source heating, placing the bunker firmly into the 21st century. Fancy bringing your dog? Two well-behaved pooches are allowed.
Bedroom-wise, there's a spacious twin and a second room with bunks, and a bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower. Outside, you'll find a private garden with patio seating for al fresco meals, and there's also a dining table inside if the weather doesn't play ball. But if you don't fancy cooking, the Smuggler's Inn is a few miles away.
Keen to explore Dorset? There's plenty to discover along the UNESCO-designated Jurassic Coast, including National Trust Ringstead Bay with its shingle beach, the South Coast Path, the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. And the seaside town of Weymouth is just a 20-minute drive away, with its Blue Flag sandy beach, Sea Life Centre and Lodmoor Country Park.
