Weymouth
Weymouth Dorset
Popularized by ‘mad’ King George III in the late 1700s, Weymouth is a traditional British bucket-and-spade seaside resort, with a fine, long sandy beach and an attractive seafront lined with elegant Georgian terraces. The main attraction, of course, is the beach, where donkey rides, England’s longest-running Punch and Judy show and some ambitious sand sculptures can be found. However, it’s also worth exploring the old town, where narrow alleyways of fishermen’s cottages spread beyond the lively Old Harbour, whose waterfront esplanades are lined with cafés, restaurants and guesthouses. Stroll along the harbourfront, watching the children crabbing and the fishermen landing their catch, or take one of the boat trips or RIB rides that leave from here to explore the bay.
