Brading Roman Villa
Morton Old Road Brading PO36 0EN
Set in beautiful countryside with panoramic views over Sandown Bay, Brading is one of the finest Roman archaeological sites in the UK. The award-winning visitor centre presents a remarkable insight into island life under the Roman occupation that started with Vespasian’s invasion at the head of the Second Augustan Legion in 43 AD and only ended when the Romans abandoned their Britannic colonies 350 years later. The beautifully preserved mosaic floors and excavations viewed from well-designed boardwalks, as well as the huge collection of Roman artefacts, the amphitheatre and carefully laid-out Roman gardens, make this a fascinating visit.
