As dragonflies flit across the water in front of your cabin at Four Lakes Retreat, you may feel like you're in the middle of nowhere – but actually, you’re at the heart of it all on the Isle of Wight. This is a peaceful spot, rich with wildlife and blessed with countryside views, and yet it’s only 15 minutes’ drive from the ferry port at East Cowes or Fishbourne, on the outskirts of the island’s main town. The location on the edge of Newport means you're well connected, not more than a half-hour drive from anywhere you might want to visit. And you're well accommodated too in unique and quirky contemporary cabins on the edge of a fishing lake.
Whether you’re a fishing fan or not, you’ll appreciate the lakeside setting. There’s something infinitely calming about being on the water’s edge, and here you have your own deck looking over one of the site’s four man-made lakes. If you’ve got a rod (and a licence) you’re welcome to fish for mirror carp while you’re here. If not, look out for the herons and egrets who’ll be trying their luck while you sit back and relax. This is just the place for that.
Each cabin has its own hot tub and private garden area at the back. There’s an outdoor shower and barbecue too. The cabins are hand-built, which means they're unique, but don't expect them to be rustic. These are modern, curvy cabins with all the modern amenities you need for a self-catering holiday. We’re talking WiFi, Smart TVs and on-site electric car charging – these are warm, insulated hideaways, each with an open-plan living space incorporating a kitchenette and dining area, plus one or two bedrooms and a bathroom. The overall colour scheme is soothing and sultry, but quirky features and fabrics add interest and colour.
There are three cabins at Four Lakes Retreat at the moment with a few more on the way, but there’s plenty of space for all. It feels like a rather grown-up place to stay and couples will certainly love it here, but kids are welcome as well, with two of the cabins big enough to sleep four. Off site, there’s plenty to do: the Needles are 16 miles away in the far west of the island, Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s former home, is five miles up the road, and Monkey Haven Primate Rescue Centre is virtually next door. Wherever you want to go on the island, nothing is very far away.
