A walk from Ventnor to Steephill Cove
Steephill Cove Isle of Wight PO38 1AF
Accessible only on foot, Steephill Cove is a tiny fishing village hidden below cliffs just west of Ventnor. It's not entirely undiscovered – many of the former fishing villager houses and shacks are now trendy cafés and holiday lets – but it's still an idyllic little spot and a great destination for an easy walk from Ventnor (around a mile with a few ups and downs on the way). The footpath starts alongside the car park above The Crab Inn and skirts low cliffs. The coast is quite eroded in these parts so wooden steps guide you up and round some of the less stable sections, but most of the walk is easy. Once in Steephill Cove, there are places to get a drink or ice cream, and if you still feel energetic you can climb up the paths alongside to Ventnor's Botanical Gardens.
