The Brewery Tap
98-100 Lawson Road Norwich NR3 4LF
THis lively, distinctive pub just north of the city centre is one of favooruiet Norwich watering-holes, specialising in real ales and cider (it used to be known as the Cider Shed), much of which is brewed on the premises in the Fat Cat Brewery. Run by a couple of ex TV producers, Mark and Laura, they sell a lot of their own ales, along with those of brewers like Sharpes, Elgoods and Adnams. They also host regular live music on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the emphasis on local talent, and run tasting sessions and brewery tours for those so inclined. For food they put together fab cheese boards, with cheddar, stilton and brie, crackers and bread and all the trimmings; or you can bring in a takeaway. But overall the beer is the thing here. As they say, 'Please stop asking for Stella, she doesn't work here!'.
