Nottingham Contemporary
Weekday Cross Nottingham NG1 2GB
Opened in 2009, Nottingham Contemporary is situated on the edge of the Lace Market, whose proud Victorian buildings are a memorial to Nottingham’s now almost non-existent textile industry. It's the city’s premier art gallery, and time and again its imaginative programme of temporary exhibitions has garnered rave reviews. Divided into four rooms, the main exhibition area is on street level, with a severe concrete stairway leading down to a study centre, café-bar and an auditorium. The gallery organises four or five exhibitions each year, and despite local misgivings has given the city a real cultural fillip – and is an extremely popular city centre venue. Stop by for a browse and a coffee.
