Kean’s Head
46 St Mary's Gate Nottingham NG1 1QA
Owned and operated by Castle Rock, a small pub group and brewery based in Nottingham, the Kean’s Head is a popular city-centre spot standing in the shadow of Nottingham’s finest medieval church, St Mary’s. The premises date back to the nineteenth century, if not before, and have been sympathetically modernised in a sort of informal Victorian style with bare wood floors and exposed wooden beams. The highlight is the pub’s range of draft beers, with the varied brews of Castle Rock taking pride of place – don’t miss the delectable Harvest Pale – but there are guest beers too as well as imported bottled beers, and a stand-up assortment of whiskys. The menu is classic bar food, with the likes of corned beef hash, burgers and pies; helpings are substantial and prices very affordable.
