Doctor’s Orders
351 Mansfield Road Nottingham NG5 2DA
Opened in December 2012, the Doctor’s Orders micro-pub has already established itself in Nottingham as a refuge-cum-haven for serious beer and cider drinkers. It’s nothing like an ordinary pub: there’s no counter as such and drinks are served in the one main room of what was formerly a pharmacy. The three co–owners do the serving and take the orders at the tables inside, and, if the sun is out, at a couple of tables outside on the pavement. There’s no cellar. so the assorted brews are kept in a cooled back room, and beers are are poured directly from casks. As a matter of principle, there are no TVs, no music and no gaming machines – conversation (and drinking!) are the main events here. The beers and ciders are carefully sourced from both local and more distant breweries, and they serve a small selection of wines and bar snacks too. The nice thing is you never know what might be on offer. A blackboard gives the low-down on what’s being served each day – and is also on their website.
