The Crown & Castle Restaurant
Market Square Orford IP12 2LJ
Originally founded by former hotel inspector Ruth Watson and now part of the Hotel Folk group, the Crown & Castle is an outstanding 'restaurant with rooms', where the emphasis is very much on local ingredients and the service a perfect blend of attentive and relaxed at the same time. The emphasis is on local ingredients and what you eat depends on the time of year, but there's usually a good selection of fish and seafood – crab, skate, local oysters, smoked salmon and other goodies from Pinneys' fish shop near the harbour, along with Blythburgh pork and popular classics like fish and chips and steaks. They use lots of local Suffolk suppliers like bread from the Pump Street Bakery across the square, plus you can sit outside in the garden, either to eat or to enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif. Dog owners can eat the same menu in the bar or of course outside in the garden, and the Crown & Castle is the perfect pit stop on a coastal walk or cycle ride – comfy boutique rooms too, if you want to stay over.
