The Castle
The Castle, 5 Castle Street, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7HR
Part of the New Dawn Pubs collection, The Castle is a lovely pub located in a three-story Grade II* listed Georgian townhouse on Castle Street, enjoying a prime high street position in the heart of the vibrant market town of Farnham in Surrey. The building has strong curb appeal, and the interior balances chic with charm. Upon entering, you’ll find the lounge and bar area with a warm colour palette of pinks and greens and comfy leather banquet-style seating, high tables and stools. There's an eye-catching wine library feature wall and a stylish bar filled with an array of drinks (focusing on local producers where possible, with a growing variety of no- and low-alcohol choices too), plus a wood burner for cold days. The lounge flows through to the main dining room, which offers striking details like gold Art Deco mirrors, panelling and pendant lanterns. However, the centrepiece is the glass skylight illuminating the space, creating an airy, modern feel. Head to the back of the dining room and enjoy the partially covered courtyard space, leading to a grassed walled garden filled with seasonal blooms.
The elegant décor continues on the first floor, where you'll find intimate private dining spaces – The Library and Market View – ideal for special events, meetings and family gatherings. Food-wise, The Castle offers a well-balanced mix of seasonal dishes, pub classics, and a dedicated gluten-free menu that mirrors the standard one in variety. On weekends, there's brunch (including bottomless for those celebrating), plus live music throughout the year. They're open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, serving breakfast on weekends. Oh, and they won Gold at The Beautiful South Tourism Awards for 'Best Casual Dining'. The same owners also have a pub with rooms in Hampshire – The Red Lion, Odiham – that's well worth checking out.
