Norman Foster's extraordinary billowing concert hall on the Gateshead side of the river is as much symbol of Newcastle's cultural revival as anything else in town. It has a fantastic concert programme, with anything from folk and rock to opera – and it's home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Go and have a look around in any case, as there are five bars and a brasserie, a good arts shop, and some stunning photo-ops from the bridges and Quayside, especially as night draws in and the building lights up spectacularly.
