Café Gandolfi
64 Albion Street Glasgow G1 1NY
The original and, for most Glaswegians, still the best part of the tasteful Gandolfi empire. This is the sort of relaxed, knowing café that in the wrong hands could just be trying too hard. They get the basics right – the bespoke wooden carved furniture not only looks brilliant, but it's comfy too – and the brews, whether you go for coffee or tea, are all superb.
Moving on to the food, there is something to tempt all day long, whether for breakfast, hearty or otherwise, a light lunch or something more substantial for dinner. Perhaps the finest café in the city, and definitely the best value the Merchant City has to offer. Family-friendly too.
