The Hunterian
University of Glasgow University Avenue Glasgow G12 8QQ
You can't visit the Glasgow house on Florentine Terrace that the designer Rennie Mackintosh lived in, but you can experience the next best thing up in the university district, where the Hunterian collection includes painstaking reassembled interiors of his Glaswegian home between 1906 and 1914. There's also a whole host of other objects: the medical instruments of such luminaries as James Watt, Joseph Lister and Lord Kelvin; Roman artefacts culled from the Antonine Wall; and a highly regarded art collection that includes the world’s largest permanent display of the work of James McNeill Whistler.
