Glasgow School of Art
167 Renfrew Street Glasgow G3 6RQ
Local genius Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s masterpiece and one of the most beautifully designed buildings anywhere in the UK, Glasgow's School of Art was recently voted ‘Britain’s favourite building of the past 175 years’. It's no sterile monument either, but a still-functioning art school whose charms have architecture students drooling. The facade is dramatic enough, but the guided tours of the interior are an unmissable Glasgow experience. Outside you can see Macintosh's trademark style in a facade he designed back in 1896 just as he was just beginning to create a new style in 20th century European architecture.
