Glasgow Green
The Saltmarket Glasgow G1 5DB
The city’s favourite green space, thought to be the UK’s oldest public park, is much more than just a park. You can stroll along the banks of the river along its leafy trails or sit at a bench and feed the pigeons, but Glasgow Green is alive with sculptures and monuments – look out for the vaulting memorial to Lord Nelson and the Doulton Fountain, with its striking image of Queen Victoria, which is officially the largest terracotta fountain in the world.
Check out also the People’s Palace, a Victorian museum of social history museum that tells the city’s story and has an excellent linguistic guidance section for first-time visitors who might be struggling to understand the locals.
