The Tall Ship
150 Pointhouse Place Glasgow G3 8RS
There's only one Tall Ship in Glasgow, and that's the three-masted barque Glenlee, built on the Clyde in 1896. After an illustrious career as a trading vessel, during which she circumnavigated the globe on no fewer than four occasions, she was sold to the Spanish navy for use as a training vessel in 1922. After four decades of service she was retired and would have rotted away were it not for a Royal Navy architect spotting her in Seville in 1990. Two years later she was back on the Clyde and now takes pride of place alongside the Riverside Museum. One of only 5 of her design still afloat, you can poke around on board, taking in the Captain's saloon, the first mate's cabin and the cargo hold cinema. There's a soft play section for children and audio tours for those wanting to learn more.
