The Waverley
36 Lancefield Quay Glasgow G3 8HA
This grand old dame spends much of the winter enjoying a well-earned rest at her mooring across the Clyde from the new Riverside Museum. But the world’s last ocean-going paddle steamer is no mere museum piece, and if you want to explore her varnished wooden decks and admire those thrashing great paddles then you are going to have to head off, as thousands have done before you, ‘doon the watter’ to the Clyde islands and old resorts. During the summer she plies a range of routes, with some leaving from Glasgow, others from Largs or Greenock, and all are well worth the effort (and price) for a trip that takes you not only down the Clyde, but back in time, too.
