Butchershop Bar & Grill
1055 Sauchiehall St Glasgow G3 7UD
A stylish, knowing and informal steakhouse that would sit happily in both New York and south of the river in London is a rare thing in Scotland, never mind Glasgow. So is a restaurant that treats 28-day-aged beef as it should whilst offering the same reverence for Loch Fyne oysters and hand-dived Isle of Barra scallops. The leather booths, plentiful mirrors and white shirt and black-tie clad staff help engender a sense of occasion, and the sense of theatre is only enhanced by the chateaubriand for two, which is hand-carved at your table. Look out too for excellent-value special deals like steak and chips for two with a bottle of wine for £30. Wines are thoughtfully chosen, too, with both good quality New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Argentinian Malbec, perfect foils for the seafood and the red meat, and with lots of options available by the glass.
