Il Pavone
48 Buchanan Street Glasgow G1 3JN
Unlike the ubiquitous Italia chains and pizzerias that dot Glasgow and most other UK city centres this more the real deal, owned by an Italian family. It lies at the heart of the slick Princes Mall, a designer oasis that attracts Glasgow’s well-heeled crowd. It is family friendly too with a large area outside where kids can run around and not get in grown ups way. A highlight amongst the starters is bresaola beef, spiked with peppery rocket and parmesan, and in general there's a great selection of antipasti Pizzas are decent, and they also do focaccia as starters, and there are some more interesting pasta dishes too alongside the usual suspects. Mains include good solid options like saltimbocca all Romana and a good range of fish dishes – a leggy zuppa di pesce and a good fritto misto among them. Linger for a coffee afterwards, again a much better option than the myriad chains whose branches lie back outside Princes Mall.
