Sheriffmuir Inn
Sheriffmuir Dunblane Stirling FK15 0LN
This historic inn lies near an old battlefield, when the bleak hillsides of Sheriffmuir were the site of a skirmish during the 1715 Jacobite uprising. The old whitewashed drovers' inn dates back to the late 17th century and boasts bags of atmosphere: you can relax here by a real coal fire and tuck into a hearty menu that is a cut above the usual pub grub offerings, with great steaks, local venison and hearty Cullen Skink soup – the latter ideal after the effort of walking up here from Dunblane. They have rooms too if you want to stay the night.
