It’s rare to find an award-winning five-star hotel that welcomes dogs. Even rarer to find one with the legendary Murray tennis dynasty behind it. Well that is exactly what you get at this seriously luxurious hideaway on the outskirts of stately Dunblane, within striking distance of the historic city of Stirling. Proper thought, and money, has gone into making this feel every bit the Scottish country house idyll, but also one that has all the mod cons and comforts today’s discerning guests demand.
The accommodation is spread across 10 bedrooms, 5 suites and a one bedroom gate lodge, which are all newly refurbished following a major upgrade in 2023, and decorated in their own individual style. They share in common views of the sprawling grounds, woodland, Kitchen Garden and the tennis courts (but, of course). Murray has reportedly insisted on the very best mattresses and excellent WiFi throughout - his own bugbear from travelling on the tennis tour. And there are delightful touches throughout including locally handmade toiletries from Edinburgh brand MODM in each bathroom, and fresh shortbread made to a recipe from Murray’s grandmother in every room.
The also recently refurbished restaurant, The Glasshouse, is headed up by Executive Head Chef Darin Campbell who creates wondrous dishes using the best local in-season produce, much of it grown on site or foraged for in the local woodland. Afternoon tea is also a must, particularly in the Autumn and Winter months when you can sit by the roaring open fire.
Impressively dogs are welcome in any room or suite, as well as the public areas, just not the hotel’s restaurant. The expansive grounds ensure dogs have plenty of room to really enjoy themselves, while you take in lungfuls of glorious fresh air. Bowls, towels, beds and even a doggie welcome hamper and turndown treat can be arranged for our canine friends. There is a dedicated room service breakfast menu especially for guests with dogs too.
