Having opened its doors in 1960 as the Island Hotel, this has long been one of the most stylish spots to stay on the Scillies. With its own sailing school, a private beach and gardens, gourmet cuisine and unsurpassed views over Grimsby Sound, the hotel has been converted into the Sea Garden Cottages – they have contemporary one-bedroom apartments available on a self-catering or catered basis and also large Sea Garden Cottages (sleeping 2 – 10 people on a weekly basis, self-catering only).
With the Ruin Beach Café constructed from old boat sheds, and an indoor pool and hot tub in a converted barn, there's a rustic simplicity to the luxurious vibe. However, such seaside beauty does come at a premium rate.

Tresco is somewhere else altogether...
It's a subtropical family-owned private island, just 28 miles from the coast of Cornwall but a world apart.
From its unspoilt beaches to its beautiful and varied landscape, Tresco is both a relaxing and fascinating place to stay. The island is equally suited to those who wish to take life easy as it is to those seeking discovery and adventure. There are plenty of diverse activities to enjoy, from fishing and sailing to fine dining and being pampered in our Island Spa - adjacent to your Flying Boat cottage.
Tresco is also home to the sub-tropical beauty of the world famous Abbey Garden; a perennial Kew without the glass, home to thousands of exotic plants from around the world flourishing right here on the Isles of Scilly.
Why not take to the seas for exploration and exhilaration or view the variety of interesting bird-life that can be found throughout the island? The clarity of light on Tresco and the island's land and seascapes are an inspiration to artists from far and wide, some of whose work is showcased in the Tresco Gallery.
