House in the city's old stock exchange, this hotel may not have the most original name, but it is one of the grandest places you could stay in the city centre, house din a memorable landmark building that alone is worth a visit. It also boasts some of Manchester's most indulgent guest rooms and an excellent restaurant and bar that also makes the most of the grand location on its ground floor.
The hotel feels very special form the outset, with lavish public spaces and excellent and very attentive service. The rooms are decorated in muted colours and very stylish, with an almost-Deco-ish feel to the furniture that is very in tune with the building. They are very spacious too, with big beds, desks and easy chairs and large bathrooms with robes and toiletries, large baths and separate walk-in showers. The wifi is fast and TVs come with satellite channels.
Finally there's Tom Kerridge's Bull & Bear restaurant, which specializes in classic British cuisine and where the curvy booths make a great, buzzy place to eat in which the setting is almost as important as the food. They do a wonderful breakfast, too.
