No one can convince us that Robin Hood ever came to Hebden Bridge, but we’re happy to espouse the virtues of the quaint and cosy Robin Hood Inn, perched a couple of miles above town in the small hilltop village of Pecket Well. There are three en-suite guest rooms, nicely furnished under oak beams, and with all you need for a restful night’s sleep. One double is a bit of a squeeze, but the other two are more spacious family-sized rooms with big bathrooms.
Downstairs are two open fires, exposed stone walls, and a true home-from-home atmosphere, where you can order pub-grub meals of the classic kind – everything from lasagne to lamb casserole. Four hand-pulled ales are available on a changing roster, and they have a fair selection of single malts and premium gins. Summer drinks and meals are lovely, given the raised beer garden with its sweeping moorland views. There’s parking right outside, or the bus can even drop you off if you don’t fancy driving.
