Situated in the West Sussex countryside not far from Chichester, Ashling Park Estate is relatively small vineyard, just 25 acres that were planted by the owner's daughter in 2013. But it punches far above it weight in most other respects, from the quality of their award-winning sparkling wine to the enormous range of offerings at the vineyard itself – which goes way beyond wine tastings and tours, with a shop, restaurant, beehives, a gin distillery and some genuinely luxurious lodges that offer the opportunity for an overnight stay.

Whatever you think about wine, it's a gorgeous place to stay, The five lodges were designed by Will Hardie of 'Amazing Spaces' fame, so as you would expect they are pretty stylish – bigger than they look from the outside, and provided with a comfy living area with a wood-burnin stove, one or two bedrooms, a kitchenette with all the essential you need and bathroom with rolltop baths. Each has deliberately enticing views of the estate and each fits perfectly into the its bucolic environment.

Once you've settled in, the estate is yours to enjoy – whether it's taking a tour and tasting some of Ashling Park's award-winning sparkling rose or blanc de blanc (they also produce a still Bacchus and a Pinot Noir) or enjoying a meal in the restaurant, which serves a delicious menu of locally sourced dishes Thursday–Sunday that's perfectly complemented by the wines. They use their own gin in some of the dishes, and you can have a crack at making your own on a distillery tour. Failing that, just enjoy the location: the coast is just over a mile away and there's also a nearby nature reserve to explore. It's also a short drive to West Wittering beach or to Chichester – although the best way to enjoy all this is by electric bike – which you can hire and have delivered to your door.
