The story of the Tinwood Estate vineyard is to some extent the story of British wine over the past two decades. Originally a family farm specializing in iceberg lettuce and other salad items, the land was converted from arable land to vines just under twenty years ago, and has never looked back, becoming one of Sussex's most innovative vineyards. It doesn't just produce great wines, many of them based on knowledge acquired by owner Art Tukker on a trip to Markborough New Zeald two decades ago, but it ahs also expanded the business of the vineyard to encompass tours and tastings, a restaurant serving into Sunday Roasts and Afternoon Teas and most recently accommodation with a series of purpose-built luxury lodges, so now you can stay overnight at Tinwood too..
Nestled in an idyllic South Downs location not far from Chichester, the vineyard is an appealing and luxurious place to stay, very much with the emphasis on the luxury side of things in the eight lodges, each of which is positioned to look out over the vines and towards the setting sun. Each lodge is like a detached luxury hotel room, with an open-plan living space with a super-king-size bed, a large walk-in shower and double jacuzzi. There is tea - and coffee-making facilities, including a Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making facilities, a fully stocked wine fridge (stocked with wine to buy) and a continental breakfast hamper, stacked with fruit, bread, pastries and granola. The lodges are dog-friendly and they all have a private deck and sauna for two. .
It's a perfect romantic vibe, and you can if you want just chill on the estate, taking a vineyard tour, follow various marked walking trails or jump on one of of the mountain bikes that are provided free for guests' use. The estate is also within walking distance of the Halnaker village pub, The Anglesey Arms, and you also only a ten-minute drive from the centre of Chichester. not to mention other towns, villages and walks in the Souh Downs National Park.
