Lookout Discovery Centre
Nine Mile Ride Bracknell Berkshire RG12 7QW
Lying on the fringe of Swinley Forest – and acting as its visitor hub – is this fun and imaginative science centre for all the family. It takes its name from a wooden lookout tower which you climb up for views of the Scots pine treetops and an adventure playground below. Inside the centre are some 90 hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages, including a football that floats magically on an air jet, a laser beam harp and 'whisper dishes' that allow you to chat across a crowded room. Outside there are myriad opportunities for den- and wigwam-building with the forest deadwood: Dads will be in seventh heaven. The forest proper is a great spot for walkers and mountain bikers, with numerous scenic trails – permits and trail maps are available from the Lookout centre. The original Go Ape high-wire forest walkway experience – now extended to 28 locations nationwide – is next to the centre.
