Located on the southern fringe of Windsor Great Park, a fifteen-minute drive from the centre of Windsor, this lavish country cousin to London’s Dorchester Hotel opened in September 2010, following a no-expense-spared facelift by its owner, the Sultan of Brunei, and a brief spell as Cheryl Cole’s TV ‘home’ on The X Factor. The Georgian manor house now abounds with artistic flourishes (a showpiece spiral staircase, four-poster beds that sprout branches), while the stable blocks and estate cottages have been refashioned into bedrooms decked in cool town and country pastels. Outside, a rambling 240 acres of parkland with tennis courts and polo grounds invites muddy-booted exploration. The grounds are also home to an adventurously designed and award-winning spa, sunk into the landscaped lawns like a Bond villain's lair.
