This family-owned and recently restyled stalwart of Eton High Street is Windsor’s best place for a ‘push the boat out’ dinner. A smart front dining room with designer firebowl leads through to a more relaxed conservatory restaurant and courtyard garden. The inventive modern British menu is seasonal and locally sourced; wines include a couple from the owners’ award-winning Pheasants Ridge vineyard. Good cream teas (£6) and grazing platters for the merely peckish. The Gilbey’s Studio Suite (£200 per night) lies on the top floor.
