Dorney Village & Lake
Dorney Lake Off Court Lane Dorney Windsor SL4 6QP
An hour’s walk along the towpath from Eton Bridge lies the pretty village of Dorney, with its handful of 17th century brick and timber cottages. The local manor house, Dorney Court, is a fine example of early Tudor architecture and has been in the same family for five centuries. It’s only open to the public in May and June, but the adjoining Dorney Court Kitchen Garden – a mixture of garden centre, produce shop and café – is an enjoyable stop for the green-fingered. Nearby – and open year-round – is Dorney’s Olympic rowing lake, where you can park for free and walk, cycle or scoot along its 2.2km-long shores. The Palmer Arms pub is nearby for refreshments, and the Jubilee River – a flood-relief cut of the Thames, now a haven for birds and butterflies – flows behind the pub.
