Dartmouth Castle
Dartmouth TQ6 0JN
Guarding the mouth of the River Dart for 600 years, Dartmouth’s castle began life in 1388. Its gun tower was added around a century later, and the castle was in service right up until the Second World War. Now an English Heritage building, the castle has a good multimedia presentation of its ‘big guns’. Take the ferry from Dartmouth Quay – it’s the most impressive way to arrive.
